Indira Gandhi International Airport is a major gateway to India. IGI Airport is located in DELHI, National Capital. IGI Airport is surrounded by Dwarka and Gurgaon. IGI airport is also a primary airport of National Capital Region of Delhi. The name of this airport is based on the name of former Prime Minister of India Smt. INDIRA GANDHI.

Around 40 airlines fly from IGI Airport to across the world. It is a busiest airport in terms of daily flight traffic. It is a largest and most important aviation hub of South Asia. It has the capacity to handle around 50 million passengers. And the new modern construction is going on so the capacity is increasing day by day and facilities also.

IGI Airport is equipped with modern technology. Even IGI Airport is operational while dence foggy weather due to its IIIA landing system.

Indira Gandhi International Airport has been privatised through Joint Venture. To provide the excellent facilities to the passengers Indian Government has plan to privatise the four METRO Airport terminals of world class along with the facilities of International level.

Earlier The IGI Airport was known as PALAM AIRPORT. It was served as station for Indian Air Force. Latter on passenger operations were shifted from Safderjung Airport.   

To see the condition of traffic, increasing very fast a new terminal around four times of this Palam Terminal was constructed in 1970. The name of this airport was changed with the inauguration of a new Inter National Terminal 2 on 02/05/1986. It renamed as “INDIRA GANDHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT”.

A specific terminal by the name of “Hajj Terminal” has been constructed for Muslim Pilgrimage of Hujj. Specific flights fly from this terminal for Hujj Passengers without disturbing the flights for rest of the Globe. Around 11 Million passengers per year use this terminal for Hujj.

For business point of view a separate terminal as “Cargo Terminal” is to be managed by CELEBI DELHI CARGO TERMINAL MANAGEMNET INDIA PVT. LTD., handles all cargo operations.

The construction of Terminal 4 and 5 will be at a later stage, these will be started with huge traffic, and once completed, all international flights will move to these two new terminals. For business point of view at IGI Airport a new building has been planned to handle the cargo activities. According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), these new terminals will increase the airport's annual passenger volume capacity to 100 million.
